Union officials to discuss Dublin waste outsourcing 7/28/2010 - 7:11:15 AM ![]() Union officials from Dublin's four local authorities will meet today to decide a strategy to oppose the outsourcing of waste disposal services in the capital. SIPTU shop stewards at the meeting also intend to elect a strike committee. It comes as talks continue between the union and Dun Laoighre-Rathdown Council in the dispute over the council's plan to outsource waste collection to a private company. Workers in Dublin's three other local authorities have already voted to strike if the outsourcing in Dun Laoighre-Rathdown goes ahead. Paul Smyth of SIPTU says outscourcing in one local authority paves the way for massive job losses in other councils. |
