Investigation underway into concelebrated Easter mass

An investigation is reportedly underway into how a Protestant clergyman was allowed to say Easter Sunday mass in a Catholic church.

Reports this morning said Rev Michael Graham concelebrated mass with three Catholic priests at the Augustinian Priory in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Sunday morning.

Rev Graham brought 20 members from his own Protestant church to the service, where they received communion.

This morning's reports said the primates of the Catholic Church in Ireland and the Church of Ireland had both expressed concern about the move and were seeking extra information.

They claim it could cause widespread confusion and misunderstanding among the community.

However, the Catholic priest that arranged the mass has defended the occasion, saying it was good that it had sparked a debate.

Fr O’Donovan also said the response on the ground in Drogheda had been very positive.
