Iraqi official held on terror charge 6/15/2010 - 12:21:28 PM Iraqi police said today they have arrested a local official on terrorism charges after finding a large amount of explosives in his home. Diyala provincial security chief Amer Rifaat says 11lb of TNT and three remote-control devices were uncovered at the Sunni official’s home in the town of Sadiyah, 60 miles north of Baghdad. He said officers arrested Saleh Mahdi Saleh and charged him with terrorism. Mr Rifaat says Saleh’s son was arrested two days ago, also on terrorism charges. He said the son told investigators explosives were kept at the family’s home. Many Sunnis in Iraq complain they have been the target of arrests similar to Saleh’s and claim such incidents show the Shiite-dominated government is persecuting them. |
