‘Cyrus’ replete with wit and perception 9/9/2010 - 2:14:59 PM ![]() Directors: Jay & Mark Duplass Cast: John C. Riley, Jonah Hill, Catherine Keener, Marisa Tomei Cert: 15 From the young romance of ‘Going the Distance’ to the older and more fraught romance we have here, an interesting story with well-observed characters. John (Riley) is a divorced loner who can’t find a woman to call his own. His soon to be re-married ex wife (Keener) forces him to go to a party in order to begin his re-entry into the dating scene … and to his surprise he meets Molly (Tomei). Life begins to take on a warm glow, until he meets Molly’s creepy, menacing and ever-watchful 21-year-old son Cyrus (Hill) who isn’t about to let a newcomer into his mother-son relationship. It’s a study of angst, the three-way conflict between the chief characters, carried out with wit and perception. Star Rating: 4/5 |
